The words we use, defined
Pallet talk is full of jargon that sounds obvious until someone asks you to explain it. Here are the terms that show up most across these guides — a running glossary you can lean on as you read.

| GMA pallet | The 48×40" Grocery Manufacturers Association standard — the default North American pallet. |
| Stringer | A long support board running the length of the pallet, between the top and bottom decks. |
| Block pallet | A pallet supported by solid blocks instead of stringers — four-way entry, sturdier. |
| Deck board | The flat boards across the top and bottom that your load actually sits on. |
| Core | A used pallet in sound, reusable condition — the currency of the buy-and-sell trade. |
| Combo / remanufactured | A pallet rebuilt from good salvaged parts of several retired pallets. |
| ISPM-15 / HT | The international heat-treatment standard for export wood, marked with an IPPC stamp. |
| C&D debris | Construction & demolition waste — the category a dumped pallet falls into, and pays to join. |
